VenueSpotter customer terms

Version: 16 October 2026

1. Who we are

VenueSpotter is run by Donal Doran, a sole trader, of Templegreen, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, Ireland. In these terms "we" and "us" mean him, and "you" means the business that asks for a trial or takes a plan.

Email us at hello@venuespotter.co.uk. We send notices about your trial or plan to the email address you gave us, and you can send notices to us at that address.

If we move VenueSpotter into a company we own, we will tell you by email, and these terms will carry on with that company in our place.

2. Business customers only

We sell only to businesses. By asking for a trial or taking a plan you confirm that you are acting for a business, not as a private individual, and that you may agree to these terms for it. We may ask for evidence, such as a VAT number, a company number or your business website, and we may refuse or end a trial or plan if you can't give it.

3. What we provide

A list of food and drink venues that are new or about to open in the regions you choose, sent by email every Monday, with a spreadsheet. A list has the venues we have found since your last one.

The list comes from public records: councils' premises licence applications and licence registers, and the Food Standards Agency's food hygiene register (in Scotland, Food Standards Scotland's). Each venue shows its trading name, type and premises address, what the council published about its licence, and a link to the public record.

The list is about premises, not people. It never contains a person's name (not the licence holder, the applicant, the agent or the person in charge of alcohol sales), and never a phone number or email address. A business registered under a person's own name shows as "Name withheld". For a business that may be run from a private home, the list gives only its town and the first half of its postcode.

We read only what councils and the FSA publish for anyone to see. We follow each website's rules for automated reading (robots.txt) and never get round a website's protections; some councils' pages are saved by hand from a browser. Not every council publishes licence applications in a form we may read: in those areas the list relies on the food register alone, which usually finds a venue later, nearer its opening. Our website's map shows which councils' licence applications we read.

The number of venues changes from week to week, and some weeks there may be none in your area. We don't promise a minimum. We may change the list's layout, our sources or the councils we read, as long as the list stays substantially what you signed up for.

4. The free trial

The free trial lasts 4 weeks, for one region, unless we agree something different with you. The 4 weeks start with your first list, and each list in the trial tells you when the trial ends. When it ends, the free list stops by itself: there is nothing to cancel.

The trial needs no card. Nothing is charged unless you choose a plan, and a trial never turns into a paid plan by itself. We will never ask for card details by email.

There is one free trial per business. We may end a trial early if these terms are broken.

5. Plans and prices

You can take a plan for one or more regions, charged per region, or for the whole UK. The prices are on our website. The price you pay is the one we confirm to you when you take the plan, in pounds sterling.

Our plans are flexible. If you need something different, tell us and we'll work out a plan that suits your business. Anything we agree with you by email about your plan (for example the areas, the kinds of venue, the price or the start date) forms part of these terms, and where it differs from them, what we agreed applies.

VAT. Our prices don't include VAT. We are based in Ireland and don't add VAT to our invoices. If you are registered for VAT in the UK, you account for any UK VAT yourself under the reverse charge. Our invoices will say:

"Reverse charge: the customer is to account for any UK VAT due. Supply outside the scope of Irish VAT."

6. Paying, renewal and cancelling

Paying. You pay monthly in advance, in the way we agree with you when your plan starts: by bank transfer against our invoice, or by card through our payment provider (Stripe) once we offer card payments. We never see or store your card details. The first payment is due when your plan starts, and each later one on the same date each month.

Renewal. A plan renews every month, and is charged again, until you or we cancel it.

Cancelling. You can cancel at any time, by emailing us. There is no notice period: cancelling stops the next payment, your lists carry on to the end of the month you have paid for, and the plan ends then.

Refunds. We don't refund part months. This doesn't affect any right you have by law.

Changing plan. Adding a region, or moving to the whole UK, can start straight away: you pay a part-month charge for the rest of the current month, then the new price. Removing a region, or moving down from the whole UK, starts from your next payment date.

Price changes. We will email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to you. If you don't want to pay it, cancel before it starts and you will never be charged it.

If a payment is late, we will email you. If it is still unpaid 7 days after it was due, your lists pause until you pay; if it is still unpaid 30 days after it was due, your plan ends. We don't charge late fees or interest.

7. How you may use the list

This is the most important part of these terms. The list is about real businesses, some of them run by one person, and we can only supply it if it is used fairly and lawfully.

You may use the list to find and contact venues that might buy from your business, and to plan your own sales. Your own staff may use it, at all your branches. Contractors may use it only while doing work for you, never for anyone else; if they share it, that counts as you sharing it.

One business per plan. A plan is for one business. Another business, including another company in the same group, needs its own plan, unless we agree otherwise.

You may not:

  • sell, give, lend or share the list, or any part of it, with anyone outside your business;
  • publish any of it, on a website, in a directory, on social media or anywhere else;
  • use it to build a list, a product or a service for others;
  • try to find out the name of a person behind a venue, or the full address of a business we show only by town and postcode district, for example by combining our list with other information;
  • forward our emails, or share your account link, outside your business.

Keep it secure. Keep the list where only people in your business who need it can see it. If any of it gets out of your control, tell us within 3 working days.

Keeping lists. Keep each list only as long as you need it, and never for more than 12 months after you received it. When your trial or plan ends, delete our lists within 30 days. In both cases you may keep your own records of venues you have contacted or done business with.

8. Contacting venues: your duties

You are responsible for how you contact venues. When you use the list you decide how its information is used, so under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you are a controller of it in your own right; we are not acting for you. In particular:

  • Email and texts. Under the UK's e-marketing rules (PECR), you may send marketing emails or texts to a limited company without its consent, if you say who you are and give an easy way to opt out. Sole traders and ordinary partnerships count as individuals: you will usually need their consent first. The list doesn't say which venues are companies, so check before you send.
  • Phone calls. Check the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and the Corporate TPS before sales calls, and don't call anyone who has asked you not to. Never make automated recorded calls without consent.
  • If a venue asks where you got its details, tell it they came from VenueSpotter (venuespotter.co.uk). You don't have to say so otherwise.
  • If a venue asks you to stop, stop, and keep a note so it isn't contacted again.

Removed venues. Any venue on our lists may ask to be removed, and we remove every venue that asks: usually within 5 working days, always within a month. We can't take back lists already sent. When we tell you that a venue you received has been removed (by email, giving its reference from the last column of the spreadsheet), you have 5 working days to stop using it and delete it from everything you hold, apart from records of dealings the venue has chosen to have with you since.

9. Accuracy

The lists come from public records, which can be incomplete, late or wrong. We tidy and check what we take, but we can't promise that the list is complete, accurate or up to date, that a licence will be granted, or that we find every new venue. We don't promise that any venue will open, trade, or buy from you. Each venue links to its public record so you can check it.

Hygiene ratings are shown as text, correct on the date the list gives. Check https://ratings.food.gov.uk for a venue's current rating.

The food hygiene information is published by the Food Standards Agency (and Food Standards Scotland) under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and each list says so. VenueSpotter is not connected with, or endorsed by, the FSA, Food Standards Scotland or any council. These terms cover our list (the way we find, select, check and arrange the information); they don't stop you getting the same public information from the councils or the FSA yourself.

10. Our rights in the list, and liability

The list is ours. The list as we compile it (the selection, the arrangement, the matching between sources, the removal of personal names and our descriptions) belongs to us. You may use each list only as section 7 allows; nothing else passes to you.

Our care. For a paid plan, we will provide the service with reasonable care and skill.

Our limit. For a paid plan, our total liability to you for everything arising under or in connection with these terms is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. The free trial is provided as it is, and we have no liability for it.

We are not responsible for: loss of profit, sales, business, goodwill or opportunity; indirect or consequential loss; a venue not opening, closing or not buying from you; how you use the list or contact venues; or errors and gaps in the public records the list comes from.

What we never limit. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Your responsibility to us. You will repay us for any claim, fine, penalty or cost we suffer because you, or anyone in your business, used the list in breach of section 7 or 8 or of data protection or e-marketing law. This is not limited by the cap above.

11. Pausing or ending a trial or plan

We may pause your lists, or end your trial or plan, by email:

  • if a payment is unpaid (section 6);
  • straight away, if you break section 7 or 8, or we reasonably believe you have;
  • straight away, if you become insolvent or stop trading;
  • with 30 days' notice for any other reason, for example if we stop offering the service. If we end a plan for a reason that isn't your fault, we refund what you paid for any time after it ends.

You may end your plan at any time (section 6). When a trial or plan ends, sections 7, 8, 10 and 13 keep applying to the lists you received.

12. Things outside our control, and changes to these terms

We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by things we can't reasonably control: for example a council or the FSA changing or taking down its website, an internet or email failure, or a failure at our hosting or payment providers. We will tell you if a problem is likely to last more than a week.

We may update these terms. For a change that affects you materially, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies, and you can cancel before then. A change the law requires, or one that doesn't disadvantage you, may apply sooner. The version and date are at the top of these terms.

13. General, law and courts

  • Your own details. How we handle the details you give us is explained in our privacy notice, https://venuespotter.co.uk/privacy.
  • Whole agreement. These terms, and anything we agree with you by email under section 5, are the whole agreement between us. Your own terms or purchase order terms don't apply.
  • Transfer. You can't transfer your trial or plan to someone else without our agreement. We may transfer it to a company we own, or to whoever takes over VenueSpotter, and we will tell you if we do.
  • Only you and we can enforce these terms. If part of them is invalid, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
  • Law and courts. These terms, and any dispute about them (including non-contractual ones), are governed by the law of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland decide any dispute. We may also bring a claim against you in the courts of the part of the UK where you are based, for example to recover unpaid fees.
